Past & Curious is a curated programme for schools, offering activities that can be adapted to suit different group sizes and learning needs.
At Chinatown Heritage Centre (CHC), we provide an educational gateway into the past where students will explore Chinatown’s historical narratives and gain deeper insights into the lives, struggles, and contributions of early immigrants in Singapore.

CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS
NURTURING EARLY LEARNERS (NEL): DISCOVERY OF THE WORLD
Our learning journeys provide meaningful opportunities for children to develop their understanding of people, places, communities and the world around them. From exploring how people lived to seeing everyday activities of the past, children can build an early understanding of Singapore and its heritage. The experience encourages children to be curious learners, make observations, compare what they see with their own experiences and discover how things have changed over time.
INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
Our programmes provide a rich environment for inquiry-based learning, where children can investigate through observation, exploration and questioning. Teachers can use the exhibits and recreated spaces to prompt children's thinking. Children can share what they notice, make predictions about how objects were used and connect their discoveries to what they already know. This makes our learning journeys a natural extension of inquiry-based learning in the preschool classroom.
THEMATIC & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Our preschool programmes can complement a variety of common early childhood themes which children can experience through recreated 1950s spaces, everyday objects and stories. They can explore rooms, kitchens and other living spaces, and discover how people lived in Singapore in the past. These experiences help children make real-world connections and develop a more concrete and memorable understanding of the themes they are learning about.
IB PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (PYP)
Our learning journeys can also be connected to inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches such as the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through recreated environments and real-world experiences, children can explore concepts such as Change, Connection, Form, Function and Perspective. They can observe how homes, occupations and everyday life have changed, consider how people and communities are connected, investigate what objects are and how they were used, and begin to understand that people may experience the same place or period of history in different ways. Through observation, discussion and exploration, children can make meaningful connections between the past, their own experiences and the world around them.
