A Unique Character-Led Tour
"Under One Roof"
This tour reveals the living conditions of people in 1950s Chinatown through a more personal lens. Experience the stories as told by the people who lived them, with character reenactments including those of a coolie, hawker, and Samsui woman.
With this tour, you go beyond what’s written on our display plaques. You breathe the same air as the people telling their tales, reliving their struggles and hearing their voices. You connect with old Chinatown’s residents in ways you might never have thought possible.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT OUR TOURS
-
Are the tours suitable for children?Yes, the tours are suitable for children too! Do note that due to space constraints and safety concerns for our exhibits, strollers are not permitted in the galleries. A designated stroller parking area is available on the 1st floor.
-
Is the centre wheelchair accessible? Our centre consists of 3 shophouses over 3 stories high and the typical route involves navigating via staircases between floors. For wheelchair users, there is 1 hydraulic lift that provides access to all three floors and it can accommodate 1 wheelchair at a time. We seek your patience if there are other members of the public with impaired ambulation who may require the use of lifts then too. We advise visits to be during weekdays when there is less crowd, in order to have an enjoyable experience.
-
Are walk-ins accepted for the guided tours? For the “Under One Roof” Character-Led Tour, capacity is limited and walk-in purchases are subject to availability. It is highly recommended to purchase your tickets online to avoid any disappointment. For the Insider’s Look Guided Tour, please enquire with us to book a session before your visit.
