Past & Curious is a curated programme for primary schools, offering activities that can be adapted to suit different group sizes and learning needs.
At Chinatown Heritage Centre (CHC), we provide an educational gateway into the past where students will explore Chinatown’s historical narratives and gain deeper insights into the lives, struggles, and contributions of early immigrants in Singapore.
Through these experiences, students reflect and develop key competencies such as resilience, responsibility, critical thinking, collaboration, and active citizenship.

IDENTITY
CHC documents the harsh journeys, poor living conditions, and labour of early migrants.
Recreated living cubicles tell the stories of people representing diverse occupations, such as a tailor, a physician, a clog maker, a hawker, a factory worker, a carpenter, apprentices, ma-jies, coolies, trishaw riders, and the iconic samsui women.
RELATIONSHIPS
CHC highlights communal living and mutual support among migrants, showing how people relied on one another for survival and how different roles contributed to community well-being.
CHOICES
CHC presents the dilemmas faced by early migrants - leaving home, enduring hardship, and surviving daily challenges. This offers students opportunities to explore values, consider consequences, and reflect on responsible choices.
