Chinatown Heritage Centre
The idea of a heritage centre to preserve the rich history of Chinatown was first mooted in 1998. The shophouse, where the lives of Chinatown residents unfolded, was identified as the most appropriate setting.
No. 46-50 Pagoda Street became the home of the Chinatown Heritage Centre (CHC). Working under strict conservation guidelines, a team of architects, engineers, contractors and craftsmen spent two years restoring these three shophouses, while a team of researchers worked on rebuilding the life stories of former Chinatown residents.
